What is HDR? Well, it stands for 'High Dynamic Range' and in a nutshell it's the process of taking a photograph of the same image in several different exposures and then combining them together to give a high range of exposure levels across the image.
For example, if you take a typical picture of an outdoor scene you will be aware that sometimes the sky can be washed out and almost white and/or the darker foreground images or those in high shadow almost black and with little detail. This is caused by how you position the focal point of the image and how the camera adjust the aperture to compensate for bright or dark readings. HDR, By taking an under exposed, normal exposed and then over exposed picture of the same image can combine them with software and produce an image that brings out the colour of the sky with all the cloud detail and yet also show the fine detail of closer objects in high shadow. The process can be either subtle or extreme and the latter can produce some very interesting and surreal images.
