But I won’t make wild claims about my search engine optimisation or try and trick or fool the system which is highly likely to get your site black marked and your ratings drop if nothing else.

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation work can be expensive. Everyone wants their site to be number one.

Everyone trying to optimise their web site always requests the following. “Must appear on the first page of Google etc and stay there.” Well here is a little math…

10’s-100’s millions of sites, 10’-100’s millions of searches each day/week, about 12 slots available on Google’s front page. It don't take a rocket scientist to work out the above request is impossible and anyone promising you they can perform such miracles should be avoided. Also the criteria in which the search engines uses (the algorithm) is constantly being changed and updated by the search engine companies and they keep the details top secret. They don’t want anyone knowing how to ‘game’ their system. Their business is to provide their customers with exactly what they want 100% of the time, with fresh and new content each time. Not the same 12 sites.

I will create SEO website content that search engines LOVE. They are in business to give people what they want and by having an intelligently designed site and meeting a set of criteria that search engines prefer, this will increase your site ranking and can push your site high up and even on the first page of Google and I won’t charge you an arm and a leg.

Don't hire an SEO who uses Black Hat methods. (Trickery)

In the worst case these methods can get your site banned by the search engines. Even if you're not, they may work out that you're trying to trick the system and then your rankings will disappear. SEO is about content, not trickery. Avoid crazy promises and claims, for example…

• They know a special trick to get you good rankings. Or they have a "special relationship" or “know someone” within the search engines company, they don't. (SEO doesn't involve tricking the search engines or using secret methods.)

• They will submit your site to ‘hundreds’ of search engines. (I don’t know anyone that uses any engine besides Google, Yahoo, AOL, ASK or MSN.) Regardless of that, submitting your site is not needed. Once your site is up on the web it is automatically found by Search Engines Spidering the web, then once you are found, you are there forever, plus search engines constantly check the web for changed or new content. Google visits sites on average about once a month, more so if the site constantly keeps changing or having content added.

SEO requires you to know what kind of content is going to please the search engines best. Put too much of one thing into the site and it is blacklisted because it thinks you’re trying to spam your site with keywords. Don’t put enough and your site will stay dormant.
